Use of the snaffle up to 3*level : what initial usage data ?

Since January 1, 2026, the use of a simple snaffle bridle has been permitted in Grand Prix events up to and including CDI 3* and CDIO 3* competitions. At its Sports Forum (see HERE), the FEI released an initial assessment.

With strongly supported by a part of the sport's audience, the use of the snaffle bridle in Grand Prix events up to 3* level remains, for now, relatively limited . Indeed, between January 1st and March 1st, 2026:

  • out of 207 Grand Prix events, 20 were ridden with a snaffle bridle (9.66%)

  • out of 115 Grand Prix Special events, 6 were ridden with a snaffle bridle (5.21%)

  • out of 66 freestyle events, 3 were ridden with a snaffle bridle (4.54%)

However, the door seems to remain open for a later authorization up to 5* and Championships (see HERE).
