Wizard, the first Olympic mount of American Adrienne Lyle, has died.
First ridden by Belgian Stefan van Ingelgem, who presented him at the 2004 World Young Horse Championships, this son of Weltmeyer was then sold to the United States and sent to Debbie McDonald, who later passed him on to her student, Adrienne Lyle.
Ridden by Lyle, Wizard won the 2008 U.S. U25 Championship. Making his debut in CDI competitions in 2009, the bay gelding consistently won throughout the 2011 season, securing their place at the London Olympics where they finished 35th after a Grand Prix score of 69.468%.
Having competed infrequently in 2013, Wizard regularly returned to winning ways that year and represented the USA again in 2014 at the World Games in Caen, his final international competition, where he scored 69.202% and finished 30th in the Grand Prix Special.
The Oldenburg was 27 years old.
