Two new horses receive the suffix N.O.P.T.
The Dutch Olympic Horse Foundation (Stichting Nederlands Olympiade Paard) has welcomed two new horses into its N.O.P.T. program, which aims to identify and secure horses with potential for major international competitions. Olivia-Grace and Hexagon’s Nachtwacht earned their certification following a selection day held on June 10. The goal is to identify successors to the horses currently in the program. Twelve horse-and-rider combinations were presented; two particularly impressed the committee members and were awarded the certificate, allowing them to add the N.O.P.T. suffix to their names.
"After Kuvasz RS2, Hexagon’s Luxuriouzz, McLaren OLD, Mauro Turfhorst, and Hexagon’s Mr. Magnum, here is another excellent group, particularly in terms of overall quality. I believe the twelve horses in this year's selection have the potential for Grand Prix," explained national trainer Patrick van der Meer.
Seven-year-old Olivia-Grace, registered as Faina, is an Oldenburg mare by Franklin out of Fiederalala (a daughter of Foundation and Lauratio). She is owned by Dominique Filion Dressage and competes at the Prix St. Georges level. "In addition to three very good gaits, she possesses a highly athletic build that allows her to execute movements with great ease. Furthermore, she demonstrates an excellent work ethic."
The second new member of the program is Hexagon’s Nachtwacht, an eight-year-old KWPN gelding by Everdale out of Uzella Elite (a daughter of Gribaldi and Hofnar). Owned by Yvonne Cooiman and Hexagon Stables, he also competes at the Prix St. Georges level with Tessa Kole. The pair is trained by Thamar Zweistra and Rieky Young. Last year, Tessa Kole and Hexagon’s Nachtwacht already distinguished themselves on the international stage by securing victories in the Young Rider division at Exloo and Lier. "He is a horse with great Grand Prix potential," says Tessa Kole.
Although only two horses ultimately earned the N.O.P.T. label, the selection committee wishes to continue supporting the other pairs presented on June 10. In consultation with the N.O.P. board, the pairs that were not selected will be invited to a follow-up session in November. Patrick van der Meer will then conduct training sessions to assess their progress. "The standard of the group was exceptionally high; we therefore want to monitor their development and provide support where needed. This group holds great potential for future success," he explains.
