Dutch rider Lotje Schoots has just lost one of the most significant horses of her career: Equitop Torricelli LS. The son of Florestan I and Pion passed away on September 7 at the age of 26.

Torricelli entered her life when he was just two years old and she was fourteen; he accompanied her during her time riding for the van Silfhout stables, and the bay gelding enabled her to compete in the 2006 World Championships for six-year-olds, where they finished eighth.

They became Dutch champions at the Z1, ZZ-Licht, ZZ-Zwaar, and Young Rider levels, but it was primarily in the Young Rider category that the pair built a strong reputation; in 2009, they won both team and individual gold medals at the European Championships in Ermelo—a season that also saw them win the Young Rider World Cup Final in Frankfurt.

They subsequently competed at the Grand Prix level until 2014—notably in the Hickstead Nations Cup—before the bay horse returned to Young Rider classes with another Dutch rider, Aimée Maddens, in 2017–2018.
