Show Star, the stallion from the Holkenbrink stables, has died at the age of 28.
Bred by Tanja Brandtner, this son of Sandro Hit and Feinbrand won the German 3-Year-Old Championship in 2001 and then finished second in the 4-Year-Old Championship the following year, ridden by Henrike Sommer. Later, trained by Oliver Oelrich, Show Star finished second in the 2007 Nuremberg Burgpokal Final, a circuit for the best Small Tour young horses, and then competed in the Grand Prix in Germany the following season.
Joining Sophie Holkenbrink's string of horses in 2009, Show Star enabled her to become Junior European Team Champion in Kronberg in 2010 and to finish 4th individually. He then went on to win both the individual test and the Young Riders Freestyle at the Saumur Nations Cup in 2011.
The Oldenburg was notably the sire of Star Wars, the former Grand Prix horse of Bertrand Liegard, and of Sole Mio, sold for €195,000 in 2008 at the Munster sales before making a career up to Grand Prix level with Fabienne Lutkemeier.
