Katharina Hemmer & Denoix PCH win the Hagen 4* Grand Prix

The Hagen CDI is proving successful for the German riders so far: after Charlott-Maria Schürmann yesterday (see HERE), it was Katharina Hemmer who won the 4* Grand Prix qualifying for the freestyle today; a performance which also opens the doors wide for her to join the German team for the next World Championships.
Member of the German team for the first time last year in Crozet, Katharina Hemmer seems well on her way to returning to the Mannschaft this year, having just achieved a new personal best of 77.261% with her chestnut gelding. While some slight instability was noticeable at the beginning of the test, the son of Destano displayed remarkable suppleness in both trot half-passes. Although he shook his head in his second extended trot, during the transition to the passage, and out of his first piaffe, the young rider brushed away the insects that were bothering him. Consistent and without any major faults, the Germans finished well ahead of Daniel Bachmann Andersen & Flash Gordon 37. While the gelding could have shown more ease in the trot half-passes, he also lost points by noticeably lowering his neck in the rein-back and due to an extended walk that remained rather short and relaxed. Although they were perfectly straight in the two-step lead changes, they nevertheless caught their lead changes on time, leaving the track at 73.456%.
Third place went to British rider Sadie Smith, aboard Swanmore Dantina. The very active 11-year-old bay mare lost a little energy on the start of her first piaffe. A bit tense in the collected walk, she faulted on the ziz-zag at the canter; these imperfections limited her score to 71.630%.
