Change in the Spanish squad for Verden

After a spring season in the United States marked by winning performances in more than 80% of cases at the CDIs of Ocala and TerraNova, and participation in the CDI of Segovia, Santiago HGF, ridden by Antonio Crespín, was selected for the World Young Horse Championships in Verden; an event which they ultimately had to withdraw from.

In recent days, Santiago HGF suffered an incident requiring veterinary care. Although his condition was improving, as a precaution, he was transferred to a clinic in Belgium to ensure his recovery and undergo a complete examination. Following the necessary diagnostic tests and the veterinary team's assessment, it was decided to withdraw him from competition.

His owner, Kim Van Kampen, explained: "Of course, we are disappointed, but we are also experienced riders and we know that these things sometimes happen. In this particular case, we had a choice to make and we opted for the safest solution for the horse. We don't want to present a horse that isn't at 100% of its capacity. We support the Spanish team and wish them good luck and an excellent week in Verden."

Santiago HGF was awarded PRE of the Year 2026 in the United States.
