Baby to come for Juan Matute Guimon

The dark years thankfully seem a distant memory for Juan Matute Guimon: the young Spaniard is indeed soon to be a father.

Six years after his severe brain hemorrhage, and one year after the tragic loss of Lexus, his talented and promising nine-year-old Grand Prix horse, in a horrific road accident—with whom he competed last year in the Nations Cups at Compiègne and Aachen—Juan Matute Guimon is now seeing life smile upon him. Married since September 2025 to Paloma Zafrilla, the 28-year-old rider and his wife are soon to become parents of their first child. The young woman, a future dentist, has been gaining notoriety in recent months by participating in the Spanish version of MasterChef.

Since losing Lexus, Juan Matute Guimon has been fielding Zuriel in the Petit Tour series and Valentino RJ in the 7-year-old races. His last Grand Prix appearance in national competitions was in October 2025, when he was with Centurion.
