While oxers and combinations will take over Fontainebleau's arenas next week, this weekend it's all about rectangles, letters, and judges' huts! Since yesterday, dressage riders have been performing their tests; the first day was marked by Charlotte Fry & Ilegro's victory in the Saint Georges, a warm-up for the British rider who will compete tomorrow in the Nations Cup with her famous Glamourdale. Twenty-nine horse and rider combinations lined up this morning for the CDI 3* Grand Prix. With nearly two 72% scores already under his belt—71.609% at Jerez de la Frontera and 71.978% at Vejer de la Frontera, where he also secured two victories—Spaniard José Antonio Garcia Mena seems to have found in Quatre-quarts à l'orange a mount capable of bringing him back to the Spanish team, perhaps even this year. This 12-year-old son of Quaterhall, very much in the Quaterback style, is an athletic, expressive, and nice horse. With a lovely trot, the chestnut acould, however, have been a bit more uphill tenddency in his canter work; a gait he lost coming out of his second pirouette. They left the arena, after a final, slightly swaying piaffe, with a score of 69.304%. Represented by Evelyn Eger & Global Power Old, Germany secured second place. The rider from the Kasselmann stables and this son of Grey Flanell were making their Grand Prix debut in the CDI today; a start that was nothing else than quite successful. Very expressive, the 9-year-old Oldenburg lacked a bit of impulsion in his trot half-pass to th left, broke into a canter during the collected walk/passage transition, and lost impulsion at the start of the first piaffe. The German pair achieved a score of 69.217%. The best French performance in this competition came from Pierre Volla and his promising Malcom X de Massa; a pair who could well be to follow this season. Much more relaxed in the ring than a month ago at Ornago, the 10-year-old PSH by Galopin de la Font, occasionally showed some resistance to contact, a halt before the rein-back not quite perfectly square, a canter start with joined feet, a first pirouette that could be improved but a second one that was tight, and a few moments of nervousness. He also showed the full potential of his piaffe/passage work, still far from the full scope he seems capable of in these exercises. Ample and fluid at the extended walk, Malcom X de Massa will certainly easily surpass 70%, with more experience in the ring and the associated relaxation; a Grand Prix scored at 69.195%, placing him 3rd. Depuis hier, ce sont en effet les dresseurs qui enchainent leurs reprises ; une première journée marquée par la victoire sur le Saint Georges de Charlotte Fry & Ilegro, comme un échauffement pour la britannique qui prendra part demain à la Coupe des Nations avec son fameux Glamourdale. 29 couples s'alignaient ce matin sur le Grand Prix du CDI 3*. Avec déjà quasi deux 72% au compteur, 71.609% à Jerez de la Frontera et 71.978% à Vejer de la Frontera où il signait d'ailleurs deux victoires, l'espagnol José Antonio Garcia Mena semble avoir avec son Quatre-quarts à l'orange une monture en mesure de lui faire retrouver l'équipe espagnole, pourquoi pas dès cette année. Ce fils de Quaterhall de 12 ans, très typé Quaterback, est un cheval athlétique, expressif et homogène. Doté d'un joli rebond qui s'exprimait notamment dans les appuyers au trot, l'alezan est aussi doté d'un pas ample. Bien à l'aise dans les airs relevés, il aurait cependant pu être un peu montant dans son travail au galop ; allure qu'il perdait d'ailleurs en sortant de sa seconde pirouette. Ils quittaient la piste, après un ultime piaffer légèrement balancé, notés d'un 69.304%. Représentée par Evelyn Eger & Global Power Old, l'Allemagne s'invitait elle en seconde position. La cavalière des écuries Kasselmann et ce fils de Grey Flanell débutaient aujourd'hui le Grand Prix en CDI ; une première pour le moins réussie. Très expressif, le Oldenbourg de 9 ans seulement manquait légèrement d'activité dans son appuyer au trot à gauche, se remontait au milieu du pas allongé, tombait dans le galop lors de la transition pas rassemblé/passage et perdait l'activité dans l'entrée du premier piaffer qui manquait par ailleurs de soutien. Le couple allemand obtenait un 69.217%. La meilleure performance française de cette épreuve revient à Pierre Volla et son prometteur Malcom X de Massa ; un couple qui pourrait bien avoir une carte à jouer cette saison. Beaucoup plus serein en piste qu'il y a un mois à Ornago, le PSH de 10 ans par Galopin de la Font avait beau afficher quelques résistances du contact de temps en temps, un arrêt avant le reculer pas tout à fait d'aplomb, un départ au galop pieds joints, une première pirouette perfectible mais une seconde bien serrée, et quelques moments de fébrilité, il exposait aussi tout le potentiel de son travail piaffer/passage, loin encore de toute l'envergure dont on le sent capable dans ces exercices. Ample et délié au pas allongé, Malcom X de Massa franchira certainement facilement les 70%, avec davantage d'expérience en piste et le gain de relâchement associé ; un Grand Prix évalué d'un 69.195%, soit la 3 ème place. «  Je n’ai pas eu la chance de monter les Jeux Olympiques dans les jardins de Versailles alors je suis très heureux d’être ici dans ce décor quasi identique ! Malcom montre de très belles choses. C’est un cheval très complet, qui doit encore prendre de la force. Il s’est senti en piste comme chez lui ce matin donc je suis parfaitement satisfait et je remercie l’organisation de nous offrir un si bel écrin.  », concluait le Ligérien. Née chez  Michael Schulte, cette fille de All at One était d'abord découverte par l'américaine Lauren Asher qui la débutait en compétition à l'âge de 3 ans aux Pays-Bas. Vendue en Suède à Bjarke Laustsen et Patricia Florin, la Westphalienne tapait dans l'œil de Charlotte Dujardin qui en faisait l'acquisition. Sadie Smith, également cavalière de Carl Hester en reprenait d'abord les rênes en compétition avant qu'elle n'évolue alternativement avec Charlotte McDowall et Charlotte Dujardin qui la lançait sur le Grand Prix en novembre 2023 ; une première alors récompensée d'un 79.13%. Avant la suspension de Charlotte Dujardin, elles s'imposaient sur les internationaux de Lier, Hagen et Hickstead, et au Mans en octobre dernier (photo), lors de son retour à la compétition internationale. Bred by Michael Schulte, this daughter of All at One was first discovered by American rider Lauren Asher, who began competing with her at the age of three in the Netherlands. Sold to Bjarke Laustsen and Patricia Florin in Sweden, the Westphalian mare caught the eye of Charlotte Dujardin, who acquired her. Sadie Smith, also a rider for Carl Hester, initially took over the reins in competition before she was ridden alternately by Charlotte McDowall and Charlotte Dujardin, who debuted her in the Grand Prix in November 2023; a first star that earned her a score of 79.13%. Before Charlotte Dujardin's suspension, they won international competitions in Lier, Hagen, and Hickstead, and in Le Mans last October (photo), for her return to international competition. Alive and Kicking has now joined the Oatley family stables in Germany. 8 months after the European Championships in Crozet in which he participated with Dinja van Liere, the stallion Hermes will return to competition this week, ridden by his new rider. Fourth at the Paris Olympics, Dinja van Liere & Hermes were in Crozet, finishing fourth in the Grand Prix with 76.941%, eighth in the Grand Prix Special with 75.486%, and just now thirteenth in the Freestyle with 77.82%; their final performance since winning a bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships in Herning. Since then, the son of Easy Game had stayed at the stable. The 14-year-old stallion will compete tomorrow in an Inter II U25 class, presented by Eline Anker, the daughter of his co-owner, in Wezep. Never short of horses, German rider Isabell Werth is preparing to debut a new mount in competition: Back for Good. Bred by Uwe Ogonowski, Back for Good is an 9-year-old DSP stallion, approved in his studbook in 2020, by Ben Benicio and Quando Quando. Having competed very little to date, he was competing in young horse classes in Germany with Anna Weilert, then reappeared in a Small Tour class with Australian William Matthew in 2024, followed by a second class in 2025 with Pablo Escobar in June 2025, the date of his last appearance. Although no video of Back for Good seems to be available online for free at the moment, things could change quickly as Isabell Werth will be entering this chestnut horse in the Louis d'Or competitions, intended for young Grand Prix horses, at the Hagen competition from April 22 to 26; a level where her stables will also be represented by Niklaas Feilzer & Valdiviani and Lisa Wernitznig & Majestic Taonga.

Dutchrider Dinja van Liere is preparing for the future: she has indeed invested, alongside the Reesink stables, in a new 3-year-old stallion named Escador. Bred by Elizabeth Kapp, Escador is a son of the very popular in the Netherlands Extreme US, out of a Dancier mare. Presented for Hanoverian studbook approval last autumn, he was approved and then sold for €140,000 in Germany to Judith Koeppel of the 360° Sportpferde stables. On the dam's side of this young stallion's, we find Energy, sold for €700,000 to Glock Stables in 2017; the stallion Schneefall, ridden in Grand Prix competitions in Germany by Susanne Mohr; and Obama, sold for €135,000 at the same licensing to Haras de Celle.
