Having been crowned Dutch Champion last weekend at the preparatory level for the Small Tour with her young stallion New Dreams, Adelinde Cornelissen then had to deal with the sudden loss of her other horse, Luqiedo, which she had just started competing in the Grand Prix. Bred by Aris van Manen, Luqiedo was a son of his former Grand Prix horse Aqiedo, out of a Stedinger mare. Trained since his young horse years by the former leader of Dutch dressage, Luqiedo finished 16th in the 5-year-old Dutch Championship in 2021. Selected for the World Championships at 6 and 7 years old, the sensitive bay was at the time very impressed by the competitive environment: eliminated in 2022, Adelinde Cornelissen preferred to withdraw from the Small Final in 2023. Having scored over 74% on the Small Tour in CDI in 2024, this gelding from the maternal line of Governor, Fleau de Bain and Parzival, Luqiedo made his Grand Prix debut this year at a national competition organized in Liep: he obtained a promising 73%. The cause of his death has not been revealed.

Sorti jusqu'à plus de 74% sur le Petit Tour en CDI en 2024, ce hongre issu de la lignée maternelle de Governor, Fleau de Bain et Parzival - chevaux avec lesquels elles s'illustraient au plus haut niveau - Luqiedo débutait le Grand Prix cette année sur un concours national organisé à Liep : il obtenait alors un prometteur 73%. Still with a substantial string of horses, the Swede Patrik Kittel benefits from a "new" Grand Prix horse, not entirely unknown: the Oldenburg stallion Zum Glück; information relayed in recent hours by Eurodressage. Bred by Ullrich Kasselmann, this son of Zonik & Florestan began his competitive career ridden by German Frederic Wandres in 2017; a year he was the top-priced horse at the PSI sales, for €850,000 from RS2 Dressage stables in the Netherlands. He then joined Robin van Lierop's string of horses, with whom he finished 5th in the 2018 German 5-Year-Old Championship, then 9th in the 6-Year-Old World Championships, and won the German Championship. The Dutchman then competed him in the Small Tour, notably the Nuremberg Burgpokal circuit. After the young rider's contract with his employer ended, Zum Gluck continued his career with Marieke van der Putten, who entered him in his first Grand Prix in September 2023, scoring 67.391% at the time. Sold, the stallion returned to competition a few days ago with Patrik Kittel at a national competition organized in Düsseldorf, rewarded with a very promising 77.630%.

Toujours doté d'un piquet de chevaux fourni, le suédois Patrik Kittel bénéficie d'un "nouveau" cheval de Grand Prix, pas tout à fait inconnu : l'étalon Oldenbourg Zum Glück ; une information relayée ces dernières heures par Eurodressage. Après la fin de la collaboration du jeune homme avec son employeur, Zum Gluck poursuivait sa carrière avec Marieke van der Putten qui l'alignait sur son premier Grand Prix en septembre 2023 avec à l'époque un 67.391%. Vendu, l'étalon retrouvait la compétition il y a quelques jours avec Patrik Kittel sur un concours national organisé à Düsseldorf, récompensé d'un très prometteur 77.630%.

Justin Verboomen et son étalon Zonik Plus reprennent ce mois-ci la tête du classement mondial après leur récent succès sur la Coupe des Nation de Lier. Le sympathique belge domine désormais le classement des cavaliers avec 2 026 points, devançant l’ancienne numéro un mondiale, Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour (2 018 points), tandis que Charlotte (Lottie) Fry recule d’une place et se retrouve troisième avec 1 971 points. Le classement des chevaux reflète celui des cavaliers, tant en termes de position que de points. Zonik Plus reprend la tête suivi de Mount St John Freestyle et de Glamourdale. Isabell Werth qui conserve sa quatrième place au classement des cavaliers, tandis que sa jument Wendy de la Fontaine reste également quatrième au classement des chevaux “Bien sûr, c'est formidable d'être à nouveau numéro un mondial. C'est une belle reconnaissance du travail accompli, mais ce n'est pas mon objectif principal. Pour moi, le plus important est que mon cheval se sente bien, qu'il prenne plaisir à travailler et qu'il ait envie de continuer à apprendre” déclare Justin Verboomen en poursuivant " Zonik a encore une marge de progression énorme. J'ai le sentiment que nous n'avons pas encore exploité tout son potentiel. J'espère que nous pourrons continuer à progresser ensemble, étape par étape, et réaliser de belles choses encore à l'avenir." Parmi les autres évolutions on peut citer : le bond majeur de Fiona Bigwood qui grimpe à la 34 ème place alors qu'elle était 200 ème le mois dernier, idem pour Sadie Smith qui passe de la 202 ème à la 47 ème place, Leonie Richter qui est désormais 55 ème alors qu'elle était précédemment 215 ème, Gareth Hughes qui grimpe sur la 58 ème marche contre la 223 ème en mai. Coté français, Pauline Basquin occupe toujours la tête en étant 29 ème : elle perd deux places. Viennent ensuite : Corentin Pottier 50 ème, Morgan Barbançon, 53 ème, Camille Judet Chéret 57 ème, Alexandre Ayache 84 ème, Bertrand Liegard 165 ème. Justin Verboomen and his uber-talented stallion Zonik Plus are back at the top of the world rankings after their most recent success, leading Team Belgium to Nations Cup victory on home soil in Lier last month. Verboomen now leads the athlete rankings on 2,026 points at the expense of former world number one Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour (DEN) on 2,018, with Charlotte (Lottie) Fry (GBR) also down a place to third on 1,971. The separate horse rankings mirror those for the athletes, both in standings and points, with Zonik Plus back out in front (up from third), followed by Mount St John Freestyle (Laudrup-Dufour) and Glamourdale (Lottie Fry). Isabell Werth (GER), who remains fourth in the athlete rankings while her mare Wendy de la Fontaine similarly stays fourth in the horses, has also partnered Viva Gold OLD at just three international shows for six tests and five wins to see the 10-year-old stallion leap up from 111th to sixth. Verboomen and Zonik Plus had dominated the rankings since claiming historic double individual gold at the FEI Dressage European Championship in Crozet (FRA) last August, a first for Belgium, which shot them up into pole position in the rankings, but they were relegated by Laudrup-Dufour and Mount St John Freestyle at the end of March. After a planned break from competition for the 10-year-old stallion at the start of the year, he and Verboomen are back in the limelight after just three shows and a 100% strike rate this season. “Of course, it is wonderful to be world number one again. It is a great recognition of the work that has been done, but it is not my main goal. For me, the most important thing is that my horse feels well, remains happy in his work, and wants to keep learning”, Verboomen says of his young horse. “Zonik still has enormous room for improvement. I feel that we have not yet shown everything he is capable of. I hope we can continue to build together, step by step, and show even better things in the future.” Beyond the individual results, the 38-year-old athlete also emphasises the importance of the team that works with him every day. He is particularly grateful for the support of those close to him, especially his sister Clarisse, who accompanies him as his groom. “A place as world number one is never achieved alone. I am fortunate to be very well surrounded. My sister plays an essential role with Zonik, and all of this contributes to our results.” The pair keep rewriting the record books, not just for Belgium but for Dressage globally, with their tests always a picture of harmony and lightness. Verboomen bought Zonik as a two-year-old colt and they have been inseparable ever since, and Verboomen intends that it will remain that way as he has turned down multi-million euro offers for the stallion. They have won 20 of their 29 FEI starts, and have only been outside the top three twice in their stellar international career. Verboomen was declared the Peden Bloodstock FEI best athlete of 2025 at the FEI Awards in Hong Kong, China (HKG), the first Belgian across any discipline to win this accolade. The combination also topped the FEI Dressage World Cup™ Western European League 2025/2026, but with this year’s FEI Dressage World Championship and qualification for the LA28 Olympic Games in mind, the decision was made not to travel to the Final in Texas (USA). Clap de fin pour la collaboration entre la danoise Nanna Skodborg Merrald et les écuries Blue Hors qui, par un très court communiqué, annonçaient ce matin : "Après mûre réflexion, le Conseil d'administration de Blue Hors a décidé de mettre fin à sa collaboration avec sa cavalière principale Nanna Merrald. Cette décision s'inscrit dans le cadre de l'intégration de Stutteri Ask et de Blue Hors, le Conseil estimant que le moment est venu de mettre en place une nouvelle structure de direction. Cette décision n'a pas été facile à prendre, car Nanna a été un pilier de Blue Hors pendant de nombreuses années, contribuant de manière significative au sport, aux chevaux et aux employés. Elle a donc été prise avec un profond respect et une grande reconnaissance pour cette collaboration de longue date, et avec tous nos vœux de réussite pour l'avenir de Nanna. Les Conseils d'administration de Stutteri Ask et de Blue Hors vont entamer le processus de recrutement d'un nouveau cavalier principal de dressage." The collaboration between Danish rider Nanna Skodborg Merrald and the Blue Hors stables has come to an end. This morning, a very brief statement announced: "After careful consideration, the Board of Directors of Blue Hors has decided to end the collaboration with Head Rider Nanna Merrald. This decision comes in the context of the integration of Stutteri Ask and Blue Hors, where the board believes that the time is right to establish a new leadership structure and set-up. This has not been an easy decision, as Nanna has been a key part of Blue Hors for many years, making a significant contribution to the sport, the horses, and the employees. The decision has therefore been made with great respect for and appreciation of the longstanding collaboration, and with warm wishes for Nanna’s future endeavours. The Board of Directors of Stutteri Ask and Blue Hors will initiate the process of recruiting a new Lead Dressage Rider." Not content with having qualified for the last World Cup Final without being able to participate due to an administrative mix-up, the Dane won the Danish Senior Championship yesterday. Since returning to competition, Carina Cassoe Kruth and her Furstenball mare have certainly made the news: in addition to missing out on the Fort Worth event, they previously won the Herning World Cup Grand Prix. With Cathrine Laudrup Dufour & MSJ Freestyle absence, the soon-to-be 42-year-old rider and her 15-year-old DWB mare had only one real rival at these Danish Championships: Daniel Bachman Andersen & Flash Gordon; a duel that was evident from the Grand Prix onward, with the young mother taking the victory with a score of 75.909%, just shy of the former Vayron rider who achieved 75.576%. Eliminated at the end of his freestyle test due to traces of blood found in the mouth of his 11-year-old Oldenburg, Daniel Bachmann Andersen saw all his podium ambitions vanish, even though he seemed poised to win the title, which ultimately went to Carina Cassoe Kruth and Heiline's Danciera, who were rewarded with a score of 80.75%.
